In class, we had a peer feedback. i mostly looked at other works rather than to get feedback. One of my classmates said that she can tell that i have my own style even though term 2 and this project have a different mood. i was glad that she said like that. This is because that indicates I am properly building up my own design identity.
When the tutor came to give me a feedback, i asked for advice about fabric. i described what i want to make by showing reference images and he explained that it is like a tennis ball. he recommended me to try neoprene first. i bought the neoprene and came back to class. However, i could tell i would not be happy with the result if i use this fabric. i wanted to think about it more considerately. I recalled he said tennis ball so i came up with an idea simply using football ball to make sphere shape.
i started writing down any random ideas i can think of on the sheets. im considering using wadding or cotton to fill a fabric with. As its 5 weeks project i have to make a decision as soon as possible.
The tutor asked me about my outcome and asked me who it is for. He mentioned nonbinary and i was hooked on that word immediately. That was the thing i haven’t considered and it would be a new attempt i haven’t tried. Especially the project is about homosexuality and the monster so i wanted the outcome would be a monster-like design beyond gender. I’m excited to try this. However, i am applying to menswear and i personally think the garment should ultimately be wearable. for this reason, i also will focus on designing wearable garment like menswear although it is for nonbinary.
Overall, i have to make a specific plan and to gather material within 2 days so i can start 3d work on this weekend at least.
