Reflective Evaluation

When I started this course I looked forward meeting people have different background of culture. There are diverse people are living in London. Besides, there are lots of international students in LCF. I expected to interact with various people so I could have a wide perspective that I would not be able to get in my country.

I enjoyed Meeting people.  people are not afraid of talking to strangers. In term 1, i visited soho, camden town, shoreditch for assigngment. And I tried to communicate with them rather than just to interview for work. it was interesting that people from each place had different personality when i talke to them.

Looking at peers’ work was also what I enjoyed on this course. It was interesting to see some of work reflects the culture of their country. Each student has different style, which means I could get feedback of different perspective that I might haven’t considered. I really enjoyed to make other students’ strength and style into mine.

During the course I basically learned English, this is the first year of studying abroad and I had started English around one and half year before coming London. During the term I tried to speak English as much as I can. It actually improved a lot compared to the first month of London that I couldn’t understand and speak even one full sentence.

I found out the specific origin of my art and design style by writing ppd in term2 and it suggested what I would design in the future.

I found myself that I really enjoy hand drawing. I had thought that I prefer and better at digital work. However, as we have been required to do hand drawing, my hand drawing work certainly got improved and i found out that its own aesthetic and potential that digital work cant imitate.

For around one year in this unit, as I have repeated the project every term i know where to go for materials, research, study, etc.. They all are priceless experience. I feel like i do understand the overall structure of design project.

In term3, I tried not to repeat what I have done in term2 and focused on my own study and research skill. I attempted at wet molding, denim bleaching, screen print, shaping sphere, etc.  Each technique has its own potential could be developed and they would be one of my strength as I got more knowledge of skills.

I learned about time management this time. I chose the theme that requires considerate research even though it is short project. Besides, I played with fabrics like bleaching and wet molding for 3d work. It was good study but was not suitable for the short project. I learned that I need to consider subject depends on the term of project.

I think the overall sketchbook was little boring- lack of mixed media work.

if i had longer time, i would gather more various fabrics and think about unusual materials so i can present various range of outcome which would be more interesting. What i struggled in this term is to create sphere shape with hard leather. i would like to study about the structure of ball so i can use this in fashion design.

I am not really happy with term 3 project in terms of quality of process. However, in the sense of my own study, Im certainly happy that I achieved lots of skills.

Since October, I pushed myself so hard that I might not be able to do it again. I have got better way of thinking, perspective, drawing skills, English, etc. I don’t regret about the unit at all.
