ppd – In this term, i focused on my own study. it means it will be more important to show my process of the study than others so i didn’t procrastinate writing ppd. i already have written sufficient amount of ppds. Therefore, i dont think i will be in trouble by ppds. However, i need to put more photos to show my sketchbook because i will nothand in the sketchbook in this term so ppd is the only way i can show my sketchbook. I looked back drafted ppds and i realized that i didnt put that much images on the ppds. Furthurmore, i realized that there are some pages i didnt put on ppd so reader might not be able to clearly undstand the whole process of the project.

i started off creating fabrics for 3d experiment. i bleached on the black denim first. However, i forgot to dampen the denim so i was not happy with the texture of the outcome because it was not what i had tended. i didnt have time to wait for the next day. i tried bleaching on jeans i owned. However, it turned orange. i don’t know the reason why it turns green or orange depends on the denim. If you look at bleached jeans made by designers it looks purely white.
Besides, their texture looks like rough brushstrokes whereas mine just looks like mold. In this project, this bleach denim part indicates violence, madness and doom so i wanted the texture be uneven. i can change this when i draw final illustration. However, as i am the one who think it is important to have a skill to create physical outcome on my own if i am a designer, i am not really happy withe the outcome so far.
i would like to ask about it if i have a chance to talk to an expert of it.

i also started off creating flower print inspired by the scene that the girl hands over a flower to the monster. There are already lots of elements in my design plan such as bleached denim, chains, and leather with scar-like details. Therefore, i intentionally made the print as simple as possible. In term2, i also used print for design. However, it was organically developed, not i intentionally planned. This time, i planned printing as one of elements of my design. It means my design realm has been extended. i remember that i failed to present good physical print due to a matter of time. I must produce good outcome this time because this is planned by myself this time.
Once i was considering the composition of the pattern of the print, i asked some advice to my friends study fashion print. i had thought there is an answer like the golden ratio. Perhaps there might be. however, my friend told me that there is no answer. i think that is right. I don’t have to be obsessed with the answer as i am studying art and design.
While i designed the print in photoshop, i didnt save the process of the work in PSD format because i thought that the work i was on would be the final outcome. i had wanted to edit and adjust some details. The process was not saved so i had to spend more time. Next time when i do digital work, i will save all of the processes in my laptop even if i don’t think i will use it.
++ i used the heat press machine as the first attempt. i tried different temperature and time. However, the result of the print was not really clear and little blurred.
I discussed it how to improve this with a friend who has a knowledge of fashion print and she recommended me to try screen print. This is not what i haven’t tried before so i am excited to learn. The print what i want to produce is repeat pattern. It means i need to calculate the repeating part accurately. it actually requires math. i have been knowing that i need to do math for creating fashion work. As i dropped out of high school, i don’t have knowledge about it at all. it might be i will struggle with in the future. it would be helpful if i can study the basic of it before going to BA.

i tried screen print with an aid of my friend.
However, the result was not really good. First, i learnt that the screen print doesn’t portray the detail. The leaves of flower were supposed to look fingers but it look just leaves as the most of details such as shadow were gone. Unfortunately, the second print were exposed by light during the process so i couldn’t even try it. Once i tried the first print on the paper, it got smudged for some reason. i need to study more about this.
What i learnt from this is the screen print is not for accurate portrayal like the photo below.
Perhaps, there might be the way. However, i think screen print is suit for rough texture like photo below.
I might not be able to finish the print during the term but i will try it after the term for my own study. i feel like to learn about textile and print skills on my own in the future. someone might ask me why i want to study print and textile technique even though I’m studying menswear. its basically why i learnt photograph. if you want to order and to require something, you have to have knowledge about it for more specific requirement. if you don’t have knowledge, you dont know what is technically possible and impossible. In this sense, i learnt the strength and weakness of this print in this term. when i need to collaborate with textile and print student in the future, i can suggest the way which i would happy with.
i can repeat to print with with one screen. it means i can use one screen permanently. i quite like this because i feel like this is being one of my archive.
